- EY Global Mining and Metals Leader will examine how geopolitical reconfiguration is reshaping the sector’s economic dynamics.
- His presentation will address the challenges and opportunities for the development and competitiveness of Peruvian and regional mining.
Lima, March 16, 2026. Paul D. Mitchell, EY Global Mining and Metals Leader, will participate in the SIMPOSIO – XVI International Mining Meeting, organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum, and Energy (SNMPE). He will present a strategic analysis of how the new geopolitical landscape—marked by the fragmentation of global trade, competition for critical minerals, and the reconfiguration of supply chains—is creating a dynamic environment for mining investment worldwide. He will also address the economic implications of this scenario and its direct impact on the competitiveness of Peru and the region in the global metals market.
In this context, Mitchell will examine the need to strengthen operational resilience, productivity, and digital transformation as key pillars for navigating the volatility of a cyclical sector. He will analyze how mining companies can minimize business volatility, optimize costs, and enhance financial and operational performance in highly uncertain environments.
“Mining companies that fail to adapt their corporate, operational, and digital strategies to geopolitical shifts risk losing their competitive edge. In an increasingly dynamic global environment, anticipation is key,” Mitchell said, emphasizing the urgency of aligning companies’ strategic vision with a context of structural transformation.
Mitchell, a partner with EY’s Consulting division and Global Mining and Metals leader, will bring a global industry perspective to the XVI SIMPOSIO. His career spans more than three decades advising companies in the sector, with a focus on large-scale transformation, productivity improvement, post-merger integration, and financial and operational optimization. Mitchell holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Western Australia.
The SIMPOSIO – XVI International Mining Meeting will take place from May 26 to 28, 2026, at the JW Marriott Hotel Lima, under the slogan “Mining that integrates, builds the present, and transforms the future.” The event will bring together industry leaders, academics, government representatives, and members of the international community to discuss the conditions for investment, sustainability, innovation, and a roadmap toward a modern and competitive mining sector.
