Julio Velarde
President of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru
Julio Velarde is President of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), a position he has held for four consecutive terms since October 2006. He previously served as a director of the BCRP from 1990 to 1992 and from 2001 to 2003, and as Executive President of the Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR) from 2004 to 2006. In the academic sphere, he has served as Full Professor, Department Chair, and Dean of the School of Economics at the Universidad del Pacífico, and in 2023 he was named Professor Emeritus. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Brown University, where he also pursued doctoral studies, and a B.A. in Economics from the Universidad del Pacífico. Governor Velarde has received numerous honors in Chile, as well as various international awards from specialized publications such as The Banker-Financial Times, Global Markets, Latin Finance, Global Finance, and Emerging Markets.
