XVI SIMPOSIO: SNMPE Paid Tribute to Julio Velarde for His Contribution to The Macroeconomic Stability of Peru

Lima, May 28, 2026. During the SIMPOSIO – XVI International Mining Meeting, the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) publicly recognized Julio Velarde, President of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). The tribute included remarks from Diego Ortega, President of the SIMPOSIO’s organizing committee, and Julia Torreblanca, President of the SNMPE, who highlighted Velarde’s remarkable contributions to the country’s development.
During her speech, Torreblanca emphasized that this recognition reflects the feelings of the business community, the mining and energy sector, and the general public regarding work that has been key to sustaining the national economy.
The president of the SNMPE noted that Peru has faced complex periods marked by uncertainty. In this context, she emphasized that Velarde’s career and work “have contributed decisively to the macroeconomic stability of our country”. In this regard, she indicated that his presence at the BCRP “has been fundamental in preserving an economy that does not negatively impact citizens and that is a crucial element of confidence for investment”.
Torreblanca attributed this progress directly to Velarde’s leadership, whose management of the BCRP has been characterized by “rigor, prudence, and serenity,” qualities also confirmed by the international community.
For industries like mining, energy, and hydrocarbons—which operate with long-term horizons—stability is the essential starting point for any productive activity. The president of the SNMPE emphasized that without entities capable of defending technical criteria against external pressures, planning large-scale projects is unfeasible.
The business representative emphasized the importance of Velarde’s career as a role model of public service for new generations, highlighting qualities such as hard work, objectivity, and a long-term vision. “Young people need real-life role models—individuals who embody genuine public service and work with objectivity, prudence, and a long-term vision. Mr. Velarde’s career is a prime example of such a role model”, she stated.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, a group of scholarship holders who attended the SIMPOSIO–XVI International Mining Meeting participated in the protocol event, sharing the stage with the head of the BCRP for the official closing photograph of the tribute.
