{"id":17557,"date":"2026-05-28T17:36:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T22:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.simposio.pe\/?p=17557"},"modified":"2026-06-01T17:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T22:39:15","slug":"joe-mazumda-at-the-xvi-simposio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.simposio.pe\/en\/joe-mazumda-at-the-xvi-simposio\/","title":{"rendered":"Joe Mazumdar at the XVI SIMPOSIO: Peru Maintains A \u201cHigh Geological Potential\u201d To Attract Long-Term Mining Investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;liAmarillo&#8221;]<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #d2a015 !important;\">The editor and analyst of Exploration Insights highlighted that the country must make better use of its mining portfolio. <\/mark><\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b><br \/>Lima, May 28, 2026. <\/b>Joe Mazumdar, editor and analyst at Exploration Insights, stated that Peru continues to be one of the countries with the greatest geological potential for mining in the world and maintains relevant conditions to continue attracting long-term mining investment.<\/p>\r\n<p>During his presentation, \u201cPeru\u2019s Place in the Latin American Exploration Sector\u201d, delivered at the SIMPOSIO &#8211; XVI International Mining Meeting, organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), Mazumdar emphasized that Peru possesses an exceptional geological combination thanks to the configuration of the Andes Mountains and the presence of multiple types of world-class mineral deposits. \u201cThere are few countries in the world that can boast a geological transect like Peru\u2019s\u201d, he noted.<\/p>\r\n<p>In this context, Mazumdar maintained that Peru competes with other mining jurisdictions in Latin America for investment in exploration and development, especially in copper. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of strengthening predictability, improving approval times, and reducing uncertainty to maintain the country&#8217;s attractiveness to investors.<\/p>\r\n<p>He explained that in the 1990s, a mining project could progress from discovery to production in about six years. Currently, this process can be significantly prolonged due to increased requirements, permits, and challenges associated with obtaining a social license to operate.<\/p>\r\n<p>He also noted that Peru continues to attract a substantial number of exploration companies, including both major and junior firms. However, he cautioned that maintaining this capacity will depend on clear regulations, efficient processes, and favorable conditions for early exploration.<\/p>\r\n<p>Despite these challenges, Mazumdar maintained that Peru&#8217;s geological potential remains one of the country&#8217;s greatest strengths for attracting long-term mining investment. \u201cGeology is not the problem.
